Because of the catastrophic circumstances surrounding our community due to Hurricane Harvey and because so many people are supporting Disaster Relief and Response efforts at this time to assist fellow Southeast Texans affected by the storm, Catholic Charities of Southeast Texas has postponed the 15th Annual Harvest of Hope dinner, originally scheduled for Thursday, November 2.  The new Harvest of Hope dinner date is Tuesday, January 23, 2018.  Additional event information will be forthcoming very soon.  All funds raised with the annual Harvest of Hope dinner stay in Southeast Texas to assist people in need – not just Catholics – but ALL people.  Assistance is based only on the need of the person - not on religious preference, sexual orientation, or any other criteria. The programs of Catholic Charities of Southeast Texas include Asset Building Case Management which combines financial education with long-term case management including free income tax preparation as well as other services; Counseling Services provides professional individual, family, and group counseling via a sliding fee scale; Disaster Response provides financial assistance and long-term case management to help families rebuild their lives after major disasters and also provided for families facing a temporary financial crisis; Elijah’s Place gives peer and adult support to children ages 5 – 18 who are grieving the death of a parent or sibling; Hospitality Center provides a clean, safe, and dignified environment where those with limited resources have access to a hearty, midday meal every day of the year; Immigration Services is the only regional nonprofit recognized by the Board of Immigration Appeals and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service as a provider of immigration legal services such as family visa petitions, naturalization applications, and self-petitions for battered immigrants; and, Parish Social Ministry lends support and training resources to local church leaders and members working to organize social justice advocacy teams and social ministry services.  Looking forward to the Harvest of Hope event in January, 2018!

Religious Liberty & Service to All

Catholic Charities of Southeast Texas is pleased to reflect the moral values of the Catholic Church in its services. Yet, in keeping with Catholic social principles, Catholic Charities shows no preference for any particular religion when serving those in need.

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops has expressed grave reservations about threats to religious liberty emerging in America that could compromise the value-based services of institutions like Catholic Charities of Southeast Texas.

We invite you to take a few minutes to review the bishops' concerns regarding religious freedom and lend your voice of support and your prayers to the chorus of those asking God and national leaders to help our nation remain faithful to its heritage. Thank you!
